They're already a mature business seen in internet years, so they're falling behind in terms of developing features and income. I give them another 12 months to get their act together before they go the way of Friendster and other social apps that were slow to evolve.

This number also suggests that Biz Stone & Co. better come up with a revenue model for Twitter pretty soon. However just like the human brain, we are composed of both the logical and the emotional. I believe any equation needs to be balanced in the same context to stand the test of time. :)Then again I can reproduce works by the Fauves (Matisse, etc); but finite math escapes me - so perhaps I'm simply unable to discern the best formula. Let's keep an eye on this equation in the coming years; will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I understand the premise of the equation. isPermaLink="false">/blog/?p=532#comment-6724

Eric,Interesting ideas; though I must admit I'm more of an artist than a mathematician. :)I think the ultimate "X" factor in any equation that tries to predict the future is that of the people in the industry.Moore's law is consistently seen to be true b/c we can logically predict the advancement of our own capacities as human beings and our thirst for such tools.Technology is becoming ubiquitous; we don't think or see much of it today and that which works seamlessly into our lives we don't think about as technology. As you note, "Reiss" law will be seen to be true or not over time. What I think we need to be focusing more closely on are the qualitative, human elements of the UX field and all of technology. I know most in our industry like hard numbers - quantitative proof about what works and what does not; it's comforting for many to be able to point to statistics and other forms of data to prove a specific direction. As I noted out in our discussion on Leadership recently http://jeffparks.ca/index.php/show-notes/fatdux-eric-reiss-on-leadership/ soft skills aren't soft - they are, in fact, the hardest of all!If we can start to look at technology as a means of building stronger relationships with people in the real world, my experience has taught me that most equations / predictions about what can be done, by whom, and in how much time, etc are generally blown away!Less math, more art. We are after all, social animals. To soft for ya?

Eric,

Interesting ideas; though I must admit I’m more of an artist than a mathematician. <img
