Client: Copenhagen Zoo
År: 2007/2008
zoo.dk
What
The Copenhagen Zoo website had grown organically over a period of many years. In usabi- lity tests, serious navigational problems were uncovered. FatDUX was asked to completely redesign the site. The primary goals were to attract new visitors, build corporate sponsorship income, and sell more annual passes. Additionally, the site needed to encompass significant educational initiatives and host subsites for various scientific organizations operating under the auspices of the Zoo.
How
FatDUX started by sending one of our staff anthropologists to the Zoo to conduct in-park interviews with visitors. Based on this research, plus findings from the customer satisfaction surveys that the Zoo regularly conducts, we developed a comprehensive communications concept. We also developed a detailed set of user persona in order to map content require- ments to the needs of several archetypical site visitors. We then developed a detailed in- formation architecture for the site, wireframes and pixel grids. We also conducted project management vis-à-vis the development team we recruited to implement the new content- management system.
Results
The new site was extremely well received and appears to be achieving all of the goals it was designed to achieve. Because of budget cut-backs due to the economic crisis, work was stop- ped on site development in August 2008. As such some areas of the site have not yet been fully implemented.
